EXHUMATION
A Better Place to Remember
Exhumation involves the removal of a body from a burial site. In Singapore, this is done primarily due to the New Burial Policy that was introduced in 1998.

In land scarce Singapore, burials are limited to 15 years after which graves are exhumed and the remains either cremated or reinterred, this is dependent on one's religious needs.

Choa Chu Kang cemetery is the only active cemetery in Singapore and exhumations are performed mainly at this cemetery.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has announced Phase 9 of the Choa Chu Kang Exhumation Programme for the Chinese Cemetery.

The families of the affected graves may register their claims for the remains by 30 April 2026 and the physical exhumation will begin after June 2026. For detail please follow this link.

For families who want to relocate their loved ones can cremate the exhumed remains and store their ashes at our Columbarium for remembrance.
